Iron Sticking to Clothes? Restore the Soleplate in Five Minutes

Kingway | March 22, 2026 | 1 min read | Tips & Maintenance

An iron that drags or snags can ruin a shalwar kameez in one pass. The fix almost never requires a new iron — just a clean soleplate.

Three home remedies

  1. Starch haze: iron over a damp cotton cloth sprinkled with a little salt on low heat.
  2. Melted synthetic: heat the iron slightly, then rub the residue off with a wooden spatula edge — never a knife on a coated plate.
  3. General grime: rub a paste of baking soda and water with a soft cloth on a cold plate, wipe clean, dry fully.

Daily habits

Match the dial to the fabric — polyester on the cotton setting is how plates get coated in the first place. Non-stick soleplates like the one on the National Inverter Electric Dry Iron NR-17 stay smooth with nothing more than an occasional wipe.

Plate scratched beyond saving? A new iron in Irons costs less than you think.
