How to Sanitise a Water Dispenser (and Why It Tastes Odd If You Skip It)
A dispenser pours your drinking water, yet it is often the least-cleaned appliance in the house. A quarterly sanitise keeps the taps fresh and the tanks safe.
The quarterly routine
- Unplug and remove the bottle; drain both taps fully.
- Fill the reservoir with a solution of one tablespoon white vinegar per litre of water; let it sit 10 minutes.
- Drain through both taps so the lines are treated too.
- Rinse twice with clean water, wipe the drip tray and bottle collar, reassemble.
Between cleans
Wipe the taps weekly — they are touched by every hand in the house. Stainless-tank units like the PEL Table-Top Classic 115 Water Dispenser resist scale and odours better than bare-plastic ones; models with storage like the Choice Appliances Floor-Standing Water Dispenser with Built-In Mini Refrigerator also need their fridge cabinet wiped monthly.
