Yellow Flame on Your Gas Stove? Here Is How to Fix It

A gas flame should burn crisp blue with a whisper. Yellow, lazy flames mean incomplete combustion: wasted gas, blackened pots and more fumes in your kitchen.

The ten-minute fix

1. Cool the stove fully and lift off the trivets and burner caps.
2. Brush the burner ports with an old toothbrush; clear blocked holes with a pin — never a toothpick that can snap inside.
3. Wash caps in soapy water, dry completely, and refit seated flat.
4. Still yellow? The air shutter needs adjusting or the regulator pressure is off — that is a technician job.
